Amazon to use Super Bowl ad to show off its new take on a popular hero, ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’

With an Alexa-focused Super Bowl commercial, Amazon is already turning to CEO Jeff Bezos for his version of heroics in the midst of a crisis. Now comes another ad, relying on a more traditional hero to deal with trouble in a spot for Amazon Prime Video.

A 60-second commercial (above) for the upcoming series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” will air just after halftime during the big game this Sunday, according to a report in Variety. NBC is charging $5 million for a 30-second ad.

The new take on the familiar series — which has starred such leading men as Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck — will turn to John Krasinski, former star of “The Office,” to play the CIA analyst. A trailer includes voice overs from U.S. presidents, including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

Variety notes that the soundtrack is a new version of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower,” performed by Devlin, featuring Ed Sheeran.
