Apple will pay for Jennifer Lawrence to play Elizabeth Holmes in new Theranos film

Apple says it will produce a film about former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, with Jennifer Lawrence of Starvation Video games fame in the starring position. The film, to be directed by Adam McKay, will be based mostly on the bestselling e-book Unhealthy Blood: Secrets and techniques and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by former Wall Road Journal reporter John Carreyrou. He wrote the first news stories detailing Theranos’ issues, at the same time as the corporate and Holmes have been being lauded in Silicon Valley.

Holmes is currently on trial going through 11 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud after it was found that Theranos’ blood testing expertise didn’t meet the requirements it claimed to buyers. On the time of its unraveling, Theranos was valued at $9 billion, and Holmes was labeled the youngest self-made billionaire and featured on Fortune’s 40 beneath 40 checklist. Later in 2016, Holmes was named one of many world’s most disappointing leaders. She faces up to 20 years in jail, if convicted.

The film is yet one more confirmed venture in regards to the Theranos scandal. Earlier this yr, Hulu confirmed that it could be making a docuseries starring Amanda Seyfried.
