Square is going to make a hardware wallet for bitcoin, the corporate’s hardware lead, Jesse Dorogusker, introduced on Thursday. CEO Jack Dorsey, who is additionally the CEO of Twitter, had said in June (in a tweetstorm, naturally) that the corporate was contemplating making one, and now Square has made the choice to transfer ahead.

“We’ve determined to construct a hardware wallet and repair to make bitcoin custody extra mainstream,” Dorogusker stated. “We’ll proceed to ask and reply questions within the open. This group’s response to our thread about this mission has been superior – encouraging, beneficiant, collaborative, & inspiring.”

Dorsey has made no secret of his curiosity in bitcoin. His Twitter bio solely says “#bitcoin,” he confirmed off a bitcoin clock while testifying before Congress, and he has even stated he’d be working on bitcoin if he wasn’t working at Square and Twitter. So it’s maybe not shocking that extra of Square’s efforts can be going towards a hardware wallet for the cryptocurrency.
