Valve announces new card game — and gets big groan from KeyArena crowd and the internet

Valve made a shock announcement Tuesday a couple of new game coming in 2018 throughout The International, the “Dota 2” event that it’s internet hosting at KeyArena in Seattle this week. However a teaser trailer for “The Artifact” didn’t reveal a lot apart from that it’s a card game — and followers in attendance and on-line reacted as in the event that they had been hoping for way more.

VentureBeat known as the transfer a shock for the Bellevue, Wash.-based video game big, and mentioned it seems to be Valve’s effort to go after Blizzard Leisure’s “Hearthstone” and its dominant place atop digital card video games.

The collective moan from the crowd at KeyArena, when it was revealed that “Artifact” was a card game and not, maybe, a long-awaited observe to 2007’s “Half-Life 2” first-person shooter game, was captured in a single basic video:

Ars Technica had a bit extra element on how the game would possibly work, through broadcaster Sean Plott, whose “transient description hinted at a one-on-one digital card-battling game, like ‘Hearthstone,’ solely with a ‘Dota’-themed three-lane system and different ‘Dota’-like tweaks.

Valve developer Brad Muir at the least tried to stoke some pleasure in what was to return:

I have been engaged on @PlayArtifact at Valve for some time now! Cannot watch for you guys to play it! :D!

However followers on-line may have a bit extra convincing. The teaser on YouTube, above, had greater than 14,500 thumbs down to only 2,200 thumbs up as of Wednesday afternoon. And the tweets simply saved coming:

Remeber when Valve use to make precise video video games?

So as an alternative of designing one thing else like HL3, L4D3, Valve decides to make one more card game
